The TYR CXT-2 sizes similar(ish) to most Nike, RAD, and PUMA training shoes with some caveats. Check out my sizing suggestions to learn more.

How I Suggest Sizing These

Narrow, medium, and slightly wider feet should be okay going true to size, but...

If you want to hedge your bets, go up a half-size to play it safe. E/EE width feet should also go up a half-size by default in these to play it safe.

If you have feet wider than EE width, go up a half-size and opt for the "wide" option if possible!

As always, please refer to TYR's sizing chart, too. You know your foot's anatomy best!

How to Find Your Size

Check out: Sizing Guide

I always recommend spot-cleaning training shoes and using a three-pronged approach to do it thoroughly.

  • Step 1: Grab your barefoot shoes, a clean washcloth, a soft soap void of harsh dyes and fragrances, and lukewarm water.
  • Step 2: Get your washcloth wet with lukewarm water and dab less than a dime-sized amount of soap on the damp washcloth.
  • Step 3: Remove your cross-training shoe’s insoles and spot clean areas on the shoes that need a little attention. Do not soak your shoes. Repeat this process of dampening your washcloth and rubbing trouble areas until your shoes look noticeably cleaner. If you have bright colorways, rub softly to avoid ruining your shoe’s colorway.
  • Step 4: Once you’re satisfied with the appearance of your shoes, place them by a vent or dry area in your house and remove their insoles until thoroughly dried.

All returns and exchanges are accepted for unworn, like-new shoes within 30-days.

Features worth knowing

The core construction details that I think are worth knowing before you buy!

1. Surge NRG Foam: The medium-density foam midsole can be stable enough to accomodate 500+ lb lifts and bouncy enough for tackling jump rope, short runs, and multi-directional movements.

2. TPU Wrap: The TPU wrap protects the midsole and outsole from early breakdown, which was something that plagued the original CXT-2 Trainer. This also gives you additional lockdown when training.

3. Reinforced Mesh Upper: The reinforced mesh upper breathes well while protecting the feet from abrasion and locking them down to prevent spillover when training.

4. Internal Lace Loops and Padded Tongue: Internal lace loops paired with the mesh tongue do a great job of promoting upper security without bunching of materials when cranking your laces tight.

Lifting Thresholds and My Assessment

This shoe can work well for recreational lifting. I've pushed them hard to assess where their stability starts to fall short.

Below are a few of the core and top lifting tests I've done in them.

  • 505 lb deadlifts. Great stability. I didn't notice compression of the midsole at this weight.
  • 345 lb squats. Good stability and if you like a higher drop, then you'll likely enjoy how this shoe feels, especially with the higher density heel.
  • 205 lb reverse lunge. Overall good. This shoe flexes well and doesn't have any awkward or aggressive toe break issues.
Cross Training Assessment

These work great for most CrossFit WODs. They're dense enough for heavy strength and weightlifting WODs and versatile enough for WODs where you're blending a ton of different movements.

They can run a bit dense, so for running-focused WODs you'll want to consider this and potentially reach for a shoe that's a little more hybrid-esque if you like a plusher ride.

For cross-training, these will be best served for more general sessions where you're doing some jumping and dynamic movement.

Running, Walking and Comfort

For running, my favorite distances to run in these are from 400-800 meters. At this distance, the denser midsole and ride doesn't bother me too much.

For walking and daily wear, I've liked these. You can rock them casually if you like a higher drop and denser feel with your trainers. If you have wider feet, you may find them a little snug after 8-10 hours of wear, but for casual errand running and whatnot, these work fine.
