DETAILS
Lace loop: Lace loop added to the Gen 2s helps improve tongue security for daily wear and training.
Leather: Premium full-grain leather which boosts this shoe's durability from outdoor elements.
Paint finish: New finish improves long-term wear and color.
Full Rubber Outsole: Grippy rubber outsole prolongs durability and grips different surfaces well for all types of climates and wear cases.
Insoles:
We increased the density of the 3mm zero-drop insole. It will be less flimsy and more durable.
We changed the flat 4mm insole to a more durable, cup-sole design. This 3-dimensional structure will be more durable, secure, and won't roll-up under your heel like the original 4mm insole. The density of this insole was also increased.
We decreased the thick 5-11mm insole to be 4-9mm. The thinner heel will be closer to zero-drop and also allow your foot to sit deeper in the shoe for a more secure fit. We also increased the density of this thick insole to provide the same amount of cushion in a smaller form factor.
1 pair of Ascent (gen 2) shoes - Our minimalist version of the classic sneaker: a premium, full-grain leather upper, featuring padded ankle and tongue, which has been glued, pressed, and stitched to our 5mm, zero-drop, high-traction rubber outsoles. They feature a spacious toe-box to allow toe-splay, all-day comfort, and are podiatrist-approved.
2 pairs of shoelaces - In addition to the laces that come installed in the shoes, each order will include an extra set of shoelaces in a different color, allowing you to change your look! The black shoes will include black/gold laces (not pictured) and the white shoes will include maroon laces (not pictured).
3 pairs of insoles - Each package will include: 3mm insoles (zero-drop), 4mm insoles (zero-drop), 4-9mm insoles (not zero-drop). You can swap insoles to change the level of cushion to match your activity and personal preference.
1 pair of toe spacers - We include a pair of our 30 Mike Mike toe spacers which can be used to help spread your toes into natural alignment. These can be used separately for foot mobility and during foot strengthening exercises, or while wearing the shoes.
1 pre-paid return mailer (US orders only) - Each package include a pre-paid return mailer; you just place the shoes inside, peel and seal the adhesive strip, and drop off at your local US Post Office. This can be used for both returns or exchanges. International customers have to arrange/pay for return shipping.
CARE
I always recommend spot-cleaning barefoot shoes and using a three-pronged approach to do it thoroughly.
I would suggest NOT putting your barefoot shoes in your washing and drying machines. Instead, follow the four steps below for properly cleaning cross-training shoes.
Step 1: Grab your barefoot shoes, a clean washcloth, a soft soap void of harsh dyes and fragrances, and lukewarm water.
Step 2: Get your washcloth wet with lukewarm water and dab less than a dime-sized amount of soap on the damp washcloth.
Step 3: Remove your barefoot shoe’s insoles and spot clean areas on the shoes that need a little attention. Do not soak your shoes. Repeat this process of dampening your washcloth and rubbing trouble areas until your shoes look noticeably cleaner. If you have bright colorways, rub softly to avoid ruining your shoe’s colorway.
Step 4: Once you’re satisfied with the appearance of your shoes, place them by a vent or dry area in your house and remove their insoles until thoroughly dried.

Features Worth Knowing
The core construction details that I think are worth knowing before you buy!
1. DURABLE UPPER & SOLE CONSTRUCTION
The quality stitching where the upper meets the sole keeps this shoe running for a long time and prevents any form of upper ripping off from the sole. My pair is going on a year strong!
2. GRIPPY RUBBER OUTSOLE
The full rubber outsole helps provide grip on different surfaces and increase this shoe's durability. Whether you're commuting in the city or running errands, these shoes tend to do a good job with overall traction.
3. BETTER TONGUE, WIDER FIT
The tongue in the Gen 2 now has a loop for additional security and the wider forefoot and midfoot blends together well. There's no creasing of the leather or midfoot when tightening these which is massive perk.
The leather on the Gen 2 feels great to the touch, looks classy, and breaks in fast. These don't crease a ton which I also really appreciate since I wear mine in all seasons and in inclement weather.

Lifting Thresholds and My Assessment
This shoe can work well for recreational lifting. I've pushed them hard to assess where their stability starts to fall short.
Below are a few of the core and top lifting tests I've done in them.
455 lb deadlifts. Decent. I'd suggest capping your pulling to this amount and below in them.
325 lb squats. Not bad at all for being a hybrid shoe. You'll start to notice a bit of compression above 315 lbs so I'd suggest capping your loading to about 340 lbs and below.
205 lb reverse lunge. Overall good. I like the flexibility of these shoes for this training context, but you will notice a bit of compression above 185 lbs for single-leg work.
Cross-Training Assessment
These work best for CrossFit WODs that have a bias towards running and dynamic exercises like box jumps and double-unders. If you know your gym programs a heavy cardio bias, then these work great.
For cross-training, these will be best served for more general sessions where you're doing some jumping and dynamic movement. They may lack for serious lateral cutting, but in most cross-training workouts, they've performed great.
Running, Walking, and Comfort Assessment
For running, my favorite distances to run in these are from 1-5 miles. At this mileage, their lower stack height isn't a huge concern. These are also best for those with a forefoot and midfoot strike.
For walking and daily wear, I've really liked these. They're a good do-it-all shoe and have made them my training shoes for travel fairly often. They're a good option for someone who wants a single shoe for training while traveling.
